Pune: To spread awareness about the impact of climate change, the ‘Pune Climate Warrior’ initiative, designed for school students, is hosting its third edition this year. The highlight of this initiative, the ‘Big Green Fest,’ will take place on Saturday (Jan 18) at the Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Auditorium, Ghole Road, from 10 AM to 6 PM. Entry to the event is free, and all are welcome.
The year-long initiative has seen enthusiastic participation from approximately 40,000 students across 80 schools representing Marathi, English, Hindi, and Urdu mediums.
The program is led by the organization "ALERT", and its finale will be marked by this grand environmental festival, organized with the support of the Pune Municipal Corporation, Cummins India, and Janwani. Advocate Vandana Chavan, founder of ALERT and former MP, shared details about the event in a press conference.
Event Highlights
The Big Green Fest will feature a range of activities and competitions, including:
Costume Contest/Fashion Show: Themes such as ‘Guardians of the Forest,’ ‘Wealth from Waste,’ and ‘Climate Change & Sustainable Future.’
Poster Competitions, Dance Performances, Street Plays, and Environmental Songs.
Workshops: Fabric bag painting and terrarium creation.
Stalls: Exhibits by schools and organizations working in environmental conservation, as well as eco-friendly product sales.
Lectures:
“Beyond Cement: Exploring Pune’s Wildlife” by Anuj Khare.
“Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj: A Pioneer of Environmental Conservation” by Satish Khade.
The event aims to educate students and the community on sustainable practices while fostering an appreciation for environmental conservation.
