Pune: A student from the Government Engineering College in Pune was robbed of a gold chain valued at ₹35,000 while walking on Hanuman Tekdi, a popular hillside spot behind Fergusson College.

The incident occurred on Sunday (November 24) afternoon when two unidentified assailants threatened the young man and stole the chain from his neck.

According to the police, the student, who resides in the college hostel, was walking on Hanuman Tekdi around 3:45 PM when the suspects approached him, issued threats, and forcibly took his gold chain.

Disturbed by the incident, the student reported the matter to the Deccan Police Station. Police Sub-Inspector Mahesh Bhosale is leading the investigation as authorities work to locate the suspects.

This incident is part of a disturbing pattern of robberies and assaults in Pune’s hilly areas. In a recent case, a college girl was threatened and gang-raped while on a walk at Bopdev Ghat with a friend.

Additionally, a student from the Northeast was robbed at Baner Hill, and another girl and her friends were also targeted by robbers on the same hill. Hanuman Tekdi itself has previously been the scene of violence, with a college student being attacked with a knife and robbed.

In response to these crimes, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has ordered increased patrolling on city hillsides.

Safety measures, including the installation of bright lights, have been directed for public areas like Vetal Hill, Hanuman Tekdi, Warje, and the Pashan-Baner Road hills, which are frequented by residents and students.

With these precautions, authorities hope to prevent further incidents and ensure safety in Pune’s popular hillside areas.
