Pune: In a major crackdown on counterfeit goods, the Ambegaon Police have raided a warehouse and seized fake branded household products, including phenyl, mosquito repellent liquid, and tea powder, worth approximately ₹1.6 lakh. These counterfeit products were being illegally distributed and sold across Pune over the past few months.
The operation was launched after an intellectual property protection agency alerted the police about the circulation of fake branded products in the market.
Following an investigation, a case was registered based on a complaint by Ashfuddin Inamdar (41), a representative of Assure IP Protection (Delhi). The accused, Ubaid Asif Shaikh (29), a resident of Ambegaon Khurd, has been booked under relevant sections of the law.
The raid led to the seizure of counterfeit stocks of Harpic, Lizol liquid, All-Out mosquito repellent liquid, and Tata Agni tea powder. These fake products were being distributed to local retailers, who were stocking them due to higher profit margins.
Representatives of the intellectual property protection agency visited multiple stores to inspect the authenticity of the products. Upon identifying fake items, they traced the supply chain, which ultimately led to the warehouse where the counterfeit goods were stored.
The investigation is being conducted under the supervision of Senior Police Inspector Sharad Zine, and further action is expected against those involved in the counterfeit distribution network.
