Pune: A family court in Pune has granted divorce to a man after he proved that his wife filed false complaints against him and pressured him to separate from his elderly parents. The court ruled in favor of the husband on grounds of cruelty. The case was heard by Judge P. M. Patil, who noted that the wife had also concealed her mental illness before marriage.
The couple, identified as Suresh and Surekha (names changed), were married in 2016. Both were employed in private firms with good salaries. However, conflicts arose when Surekha insisted that Suresh move away from his parents and place them in an old-age home. When he refused, she filed multiple complaints against him and his family. Feeling harassed, Suresh filed for divorce on the grounds of cruelty.
Key Court Decisions
Alimony Demand Rejected: The wife demanded a one-time alimony of ₹1 crore, but the court rejected her claim and instead approved a permanent settlement of ₹2 lakh.
Streedhan Claim Dismissed: The wife's request for return of her bridal assets was also turned down.
Reconciliation Denied: The court dismissed her plea to return to her husband’s house.
Suresh was represented by Adv. Sunita Jangam and Adv. Yash Jangam, along with Adv. Tanuja Kulkarni, Adv. Smita Bhosale, and Adv. Sheetal Jadhav.
"We presented substantial evidence proving the wife's false complaints and her concealed illness. The court, considering past High Court and Supreme Court rulings on cruelty in marriage, ruled in favor of the husband and granted him divorce," stated Adv. Sunita Jangam.
