Pune, 13 August 2025: The Pune Police have moved the sessions court against the Juvenile Justice Board’s (JJB) decision to reject their request to try the 17-year-old accused in last year’s fatal Porsche crash as an adult.
Special Public Prosecutor Shishir Hiray said the police filed the application on August 7 after securing the district collector’s approval. The court will fix a hearing date once the matter is listed.
Last month, the JJB ruled that the offence did not fall under the category of a “heinous crime” and turned down the police’s plea. The decision came despite public outrage over the May 19, 2024 crash, in which the luxury car driven by the minor collided with a motorcycle in Kalyani Nagar, killing two young professionals from Madhya Pradesh, Ashwini Koshta and Aneesh Awadhia.
The juvenile was granted bail soon after his arrest, with conditions that drew sharp criticism. Allegations emerged that the underage driver had been served alcohol at a Pune restaurant and that his parents bribed doctors to replace his blood sample with his mother’s, both at a private facility and at Sassoon Hospital.
The police have booked the boy’s parents and several doctors for conspiracy and evidence tampering. The Supreme Court granted interim bail to the mother in April this year, while the father and doctors remain in custody. The juvenile is also facing additional charges of destruction of evidence, added by Pune Police in a supplementary report last September.
The sessions court’s upcoming decision on whether to try the teenager as an adult could mark a turning point in the high-profile case, which continues to stir debate over justice, privilege, and accountability in Pune.
