Pune: The Central Government has officially conferred Marathi with the status of a classical language, marking a historic milestone for the linguistic heritage of Maharashtra.
In a significant development, the upcoming 98th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan (All India Marathi Literature Festival) is set to take place in Delhi, the nation's capital, from February 21 to 23, 2025.
To facilitate the participation of literature enthusiasts and writers traveling from Maharashtra, a special train service has been arranged between Pune and New Delhi.
The train will depart from Pune on February 19, 2025, and make the return journey from Delhi on February 24, 2025. This initiative, announced by Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol, was made possible through the intervention of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Expressing his gratitude, Mohol stated, "On behalf of the Marathi literary community, I sincerely thank Railway Minister Vaishnaw Ji for responding positively to my request and arranging a special train for this prestigious event.
The recognition of Marathi as a classical language, coupled with this grand literary gathering in Delhi, is a matter of immense pride and joy for all Marathi-speaking individuals."
The Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan is a flagship event in the Marathi literary calendar. This year, it is expected to draw thousands of participants, including eminent writers, poets, and scholars, from across Maharashtra and beyond.
The decision to host the event in Delhi has added a distinct significance, symbolizing the national prominence of Marathi literature and culture.
