Pune: The state government of Maharashtra has sanctioned ₹9.75 crore for the distribution of Emergency pensions for the period of January to March 2025.
This scheme, which provides financial aid to individuals imprisoned during the Emergency period (June 25, 1975, to March 21, 1977), aims to honor their sacrifice and hardships.
Under this scheme, individuals who served more than one month of imprisonment during the Emergency receive a monthly pension of ₹10,000, while those who served less than one month receive ₹5,000. Across the state, a total of 4,301 individuals benefit from the scheme.
In Pune district alone, 586 beneficiaries are part of the Emergency pension scheme. To disburse pensions for these beneficiaries for three months, ₹1.47 crore has been transferred to the district administration.
The pension scheme was introduced following a Cabinet proposal on January 2, 2018, aimed at recognizing and honoring individuals who faced imprisonment during the Emergency. The government continues to ensure timely financial support to these pensioners as part of its commitment to their welfare.
