Pune, 21 October 2025: Pune witnessed increased in burglaries during the Diwali festival, with thieves targeting locked homes and shops across the city. The incidents occurred in areas including Manglwar Peth, Sinhgad Road, Wagholi, and NIBM Road, causing an estimated loss of ₹6 lakh in cash and gold.
In Manglwar Peth, burglars broke into a locked apartment in the Shitole building, stealing jewellery and cash worth approximately ₹2.1 lakh. A 53-year-old businessman filed a complaint with the Samarth police station.
Shops along Sinhgad Road were also targeted. At Bhamini Arcade, burglars forced open shutters of Anvaya Ladies, SNR Collection, and another store, making off with ₹43,000 in cash. A woman filed a complaint at the Parvati police station, and a case was registered against unknown suspects.
In Wagholi, the Golcha family’s apartment in Konark Exotica Society was broken into while they were away. Thieves used a duplicate key to open the safety door and stole jewellery and cash worth ₹81,000. Similarly, in Nine Hills Society on NIBM Road, burglars took advantage of residents being away, stealing ₹2.65 lakh in gold and cash. A case was registered at the Kalepadal police station.
Pune police have warned that burglaries increase during festivals when homes are left unattended. Residents are advised to inform neighbours, keep CCTV and alarm systems operational, and avoid storing valuable cash or jewellery at home.
