Pune: The wholesale prices of onions, peas, drumsticks, and potatoes have seen a significant drop at Pune’s Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard due to a surge in supply from various states, traders confirmed.

On Sunday, the wholesale market recorded the arrival of 90 trucks of vegetables from across Maharashtra and states like Karnataka, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. Senior trader Vilas Bhujbal stated that the influx included significant quantities of green chilies, cabbage, beans, peas, drumsticks, carrots, and garlic.

From the Pune division, large quantities of okra, guar beans, tomatoes, green chilies, capsicum, cucumbers, cabbage, cauliflower, red pumpkins, onions, and potatoes were delivered. Notably, 100 trucks of onions and 40 tempos of potatoes were among the arrivals, contributing to the price reduction.

Falling Leafy Vegetable Prices Drive Demand

The prices of leafy vegetables, including coriander and fenugreek, have also dropped, leading to increased consumer demand. Approximately 1.5 lakh bundles of coriander and 70,000 bundles of fenugreek arrived at the yard.

Wholesale prices for leafy greens per 100 bundles were as follows:

• Coriander: ₹400–₹800

• Fenugreek: ₹500–₹800

• Spinach: ₹800–₹1,500

• Mint: ₹300–₹800

• Radish Leaves: ₹800–₹1,500

Other greens like shepu (dill), red amaranth, ambadi, and chard also showed price reductions.

Fruit Market Prices Rise

In contrast, the prices of fruits such as lemons, pomegranates, melons, papayas, and custard apples have risen in the fruit market. However, prices for oranges, sapodilla, pineapples, and sweet lime remained steady.

On Sunday, fruit arrivals included 30–40 tons of sweet lime, 70–80 tons of oranges, 20–25 tons of pomegranates, and 30–40 tempos of papayas. Additionally, lemons accounted for 1,000–1,500 sacks, and melons totaled 5–6 tempos.
