Pune: A caretaker hired to look after an elderly woman in Pune was arrested for stealing gold jewelry from the household. The Bibwewadi police apprehended the accused, identified as Gayatri Sunil Hatekar (24), and recovered gold worth ₹8.70 lakh (146 grams) from her possession.
The theft occurred in a bungalow located near Mahesh Society in Bibwewadi, where the complainant’s elderly mother resides. The caretaker, entrusted with the responsibility of attending to the elderly woman, allegedly exploited the opportunity and stole 25 tolas of gold jewelry between September and November.
The case came to light when the complainant filed a report on October 1 at the Bibwewadi police station. Upon investigation, police officials discovered that Hatekar, who frequently visited the house, had gained access to the cupboard and stolen the valuables.
Under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr. Rajkumar Shinde and Assistant Commissioner Dhanyakumar Godse, a team comprising Senior Inspector Shankar Salunkhe, Inspector Manojkumar Londhe, Assistant Inspector Sanjay Nikumbh, and Sub-Inspector Shashank Jadhav, along with officers Ashish Gaikwad, Rahul Shelar, Nitin Katurde, and Gokula Katkar, conducted the operation and arrested the suspect.
Police recovered a significant portion of the stolen items, amounting to 146 grams of gold. Efforts are ongoing to trace any remaining stolen property. The Bibwewadi police continue to investigate the matter further.
