Pune: A security guard at Karad Urban Bank in the Market Yard area thwarted an attempted robbery when a minor threatened him with a knife and demanded money. The incident occurred late Thursday (December 12) night.

According to the complaint filed by Vijay Mahadev Gaikwad, a 55-year-old security guard, the minor entered the bank premises at midnight and brandished a knife, threatening to kill him if he did not hand over money. Gaikwad resisted, forcing the accused to flee. The Market Yard Police have registered a case against the minor, and the investigation is being conducted by Police Sub-Inspector Prakash Jagtap.

Meanwhile, persistent burglaries in the Market Yard area have alarmed residents, prompting them to demand immediate police action to ensure their safety. Members of the Amarnath Foundation submitted a memorandum to the Market Yard Police Station seeking enhanced security measures.

The area, located north of Bibwewadi-Kondhwa Road, comprises 16 residential societies that have witnessed an increase in thefts over recent months. Thieves target homes after ensuring the absence of occupants, often during both day and night.

Residents highlighted the lack of regular police patrolling as a contributing factor to the rise in criminal activity. The memorandum requested increased patrols in critical areas, including Jhala Complex, Nishidha Society, Ganatra Complex, and Kumar Park. Additionally, they urged the installation of CCTV cameras and other security measures.

Senior Police Inspector Maya Devre assured residents that immediate steps would be taken to address their concerns. The meeting was attended by foundation members, including President Ashok Kunkulol and other representatives.
