Pune: Pune police have arrested two individuals for attempting to seize property illegally. This incident highlights the ongoing issue of land disputes in the city, where several high-profile cases have made headlines in recent years.
The Pune police have taken two individuals into custody for allegedly trying to grab land in a residential area. The arrests were made following a complaint filed by a local resident who claimed that the accused were attempting to encroach on their property. The police have booked the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for cheating, forgery, and criminal intimidation.
Pune has seen a surge in land grabbing cases, often involving organized gangs and influential figures. Notable cases include the arrest of RTI activist Ravindra Barhate, who was accused of multiple crimes related to land grabbing and extortion. Similarly, Deepak Mankar, a former deputy mayor, was booked for allegedly grabbing land from a woman in the Kothrud area.
Recently, notorious gangster Tipu Pathan was arrested for his involvement in an extortion case related to land grabbing. Pathan and his associates allegedly threatened a woman to vacate her land in Hadapsar, demanding a hefty sum in exchange for leaving her property alone. This case underscores the role of organised crime in land disputes.
In another case, 27 individuals, including developers from Sukhwani Builders and Gagan Properties, were booked for attempting to encroach on 40 acres of land. These incidents suggest that land grabbing is not limited to individual actions but also involves larger entities seeking to exploit loopholes in the system.
The recurring instances of land grabbing in Pune highlight the need for stricter enforcement of property laws and increased vigilance by authorities. As the city continues to grow, ensuring that development is fair and legal is crucial for maintaining public trust and preventing such crimes.
