Pune: A 65-year-old woman was forcibly robbed of her ₹1 lakh gold chain after accepting a lift from an unknown biker. The accused, identified as Akshay Anirudh Oak (27), a resident of Shanivar Peth, stopped near a brick kiln along the riverbed, threatened the woman, pushed her to the ground, and snatched her necklace before fleeing.

The victim, who earns her livelihood as a domestic helper, was walking home through the Dattawadi riverbed around 11 AM on Saturday when Akshay Oak approached her on his two-wheeler and offered a ride. Trusting his offer, she accepted. However, when they reached Rajput Brick Kiln, he stopped the vehicle, threatened to assault her, and forcefully took her gold chain before escaping.

Following the victim’s complaint at the Deccan Police Station, an investigation team analyzed CCTV footage and employed technical surveillance to trace the accused. Within just four hours, police tracked down Akshay Oak in Shaniwar Peth and took him into custody. The police recovered the stolen gold chain and the bike used in the crime, seizing assets worth a total of ₹1.2 lakh.

During questioning, Akshay Oak, a graduate and owner of a laundry business, admitted that he committed the crime due to family disputes and financial difficulties.

The arrest was made under the supervision of Additional Commissioner of Police Praveenkumar Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police Sandeepsingh Gill, Assistant Commissioner of Police Sainath Thombre, and Senior Police Inspector Girisha Nimbalkar.

The operation was executed by a team comprising Police Inspector (Crime) Prasad Raut, Sub-Inspectors Ajay Bhosale and Dattatray Sawant, Assistant Inspector Dattatray Shinde, and constables Dhanshree Supekar, Mahesh Shirsath, Sagar Ghadge, Wasim Siddiqui, Rohit Pathrut, Rohit Mirje, and Nagnath Mhaske.
