Tension gripped Pune’s bustling Mangalwar Peth locality late Sunday night after a minor dispute between two groups escalated into a firing incident. Thanks to the prompt action of the Pune Police, two individuals have been arrested in connection with the case. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and authorities have assured residents that the situation is under control.
According to police sources, the altercation began around 10:30 PM near a busy market area in Mangalwar Peth, one of Pune’s oldest commercial neighborhoods. Witnesses say the dispute started over a trivial issue—believed to be related to parking or a verbal exchange—which quickly turned heated. In the heat of the moment, one of the accused allegedly drew a firearm and fired a shot into the air to intimidate the other party.
The sound of gunfire caused panic among shopkeepers and local residents, many of whom rushed to safety and alerted the police.
Within minutes, a police patrol team arrived at the scene, cordoned off the area, and began questioning witnesses. Based on eyewitness accounts and CCTV footage from nearby shops, officers were able to identify and apprehend the two main suspects involved in the incident.
The firearm used in the firing was recovered and sent for forensic examination. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act.
Senior Inspector Rajesh Jadhav of the Faraskhana Police Station stated, “The accused have been taken into custody and are being interrogated. We are investigating whether the weapon was licensed and if there is any criminal background to the suspects.”
While no one was physically harmed, the incident has left local residents and business owners shaken. “This is a busy area, and such incidents are rare. We are relieved that no one was hurt, but it’s a reminder that disputes can escalate quickly,” said a local shopkeeper.
The police have increased patrolling in the area and assured the community that strict action will be taken to maintain law and order.
The firing incident has sparked conversations about public safety and the need for conflict resolution in urban settings. Local leaders have appealed for calm and urged citizens to report any suspicious activities to authorities.
Pune Police Commissioner Manoj Patil commented, “We will not tolerate any form of violence or intimidation. The safety of Pune’s citizens is our top priority, and we urge everyone to resolve disputes peacefully.”
