Pune: In response to passenger demand, Pune Metro is preparing to extend its operating hours until 11 PM. An official announcement is expected soon, providing relief to residents of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad who rely on public transport for their daily commute.

Pune Metro currently operates two major routes: Pimpri to Swargate, spanning 17.5 kilometers with 14 stations, and Vanaz to Ramwadi, covering 14.5 kilometers with 16 stations. Together, these routes form a 33-kilometer metro network that has been receiving an encouraging response, with daily ridership crossing 1.5 lakh passengers.

Presently, metro services run from 6 AM to 10 PM. However, with IT companies and other establishments in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad remaining operational until late at night, many commuters face difficulties using the metro. This forces them to rely on PMPML buses or private transport. Passengers have reported being overcharged by private vehicle operators, increasing the demand for an extension of metro services.

The metro administration has acknowledged these concerns and is working towards extending operations by an additional hour, which will allow services to run until 11 PM. “We are positively considering the passenger demand to extend metro services until 11 PM. The decision is under review,” said Hemant Sonawane, Public Relations Officer, Pune Metro.

Once implemented, this extension is expected to benefit not only professionals and students but also tourists and local residents, ensuring a more reliable and economical mode of transportation.
