Pune Metro has recorded a significant decline in ridership over the past three months, with March witnessing a steep drop of 5 lakh passengers compared to January.
The decline has also affected ticket revenue, which dropped from ₹7.87 crore in January to ₹7.01 crore in March – a reduction of ₹86 lakh.
Even though the entire 33-km metro corridor is now operational, passenger numbers have not grown as expected. The Mandai and Swargate stations were anticipated to drive daily ridership above 2 lakh, but the actual figures remain around 1.6 lakh.
Current Daily Metro Ridership Trends
Pimpri-Chinchwad to Swargate route: 63,000 passengers
Vanaz to Ramwadi route: 82,000 passengers
Total daily ridership: 1.44 lakh passengers
This stagnation in ridership suggests that Pune Metro needs to improve last-mile connectivity to attract more commuters.
