The directive, issued on Friday by municipal commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, comes into effect immediately. It is part of the state government’s Marathi language policy and is based on recommendations from the city engineer’s office.

As per the order, the names of buildings, housing societies, and commercial establishments must be prominently displayed in Marathi at the front of the property. The move also follows an appeal made in April by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader Prashant Kanojia, who had urged the civic body to ensure Marathi signboards were made mandatory across Pune.

PMC officials have confirmed that the new rule will be strictly enforced and that property owners are expected to comply without delay.
