Pune: A dramatic incident unfolded at the Vishrantwadi Police Station in Pune when constable Vijay Jadhav attempted to set himself on fire, demanding that his complaint be registered. The timely intervention of police staff averted a tragedy.
Dispute Led to Cross-Complaints
The incident stemmed from a dispute between constable Vijay Jadhav, his brother Vicky Jadhav, and Omkarsing Gulchandsing Bhond, along with others from Anand Park, Dhanori. Both parties filed cross-complaints, and a case was registered against Bhond based on Vicky Jadhav’s complaint.
Self-Immolation Attempt at Police Station
While the police began recording Omkarsing Bhond’s statement, Vijay Jadhav insisted that his complaint also be registered. Frustrated, he allegedly declared, "If my complaint is not taken, I will set myself on fire," and poured petrol on himself inside the police station.
The situation was quickly brought under control by the police staff, who restrained Jadhav and prevented a disaster. Following this, a non-cognizable offense was registered against him for attempting suicide.
Police Constable Suspended
In response to the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dr. Sandeep Bhajibhakare ordered the suspension of Vijay Jadhav. Further investigations into the case are ongoing.
