Pune: A statement by actor Rahul Solapurkar regarding the historic escape of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj from Agra has triggered controversy. Solapurkar had claimed that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj did not escape using sweet baskets, but instead bribed several of Aurangzeb’s generals to facilitate his return to Maharashtra.

The controversy intensified when members of the Akhand Maratha Samaj staged a protest at the Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute in Pune, where Solapurkar serves as a trustee.

The protesters demanded his removal from the position and expressed their dissent by hitting his photograph with footwear.

Public Apology Issued by Solapurkar

As backlash mounted, Rahul Solapurkar released a video message apologizing for his remarks. "If my statement has hurt the sentiments of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s followers, I sincerely regret it," he said.

In light of the protests, Pune Police have increased security outside Solapurkar’s residence in Laxmi Kavach Society, Kothrud, to prevent any potential disturbances. Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against any unlawful activities related to the controversy.
