Pune: In a recent development in the Swargate rape case, Pune Police have proposed the name of Advocate Ajay Misar as the public prosecutor and have submitted a formal recommendation to the state government for approval. The appointment of Advocate Asim Sarode as public prosecutor has been rejected.
This decision has stirred discussions, as the victim had specifically sought Sarode’s appointment to represent her in court. However, with Ajay Misar’s name now in consideration, the possibility of Sarode being appointed as the special public prosecutor has significantly decreased.
Sources confirm that Pune Police has formally proposed Advocate Ajay Misar as the special public prosecutor in the case. The final decision now rests with the state government, which will determine whether Misar takes up the role. Meanwhile, it remains uncertain whether the victim will now take legal recourse and approach the court regarding the appointment of the prosecutor.
The case involves a shocking rape incident that took place inside a MSRTC bus at Swargate Bus Station, where a 26-year-old woman was assaulted. Following swift action, the police arrested the accused, Datta Gade, within 75 hours of the crime.
The case drew controversy after some individuals questioned the victim’s credibility and suggested that she knew the accused beforehand. These allegations caused significant mental distress to the victim. However, the investigation confirmed that Datta Gade had deliberately trapped the woman and had a history of criminal activities.
As the state government reviews the police’s recommendation, all eyes are now on the final decision regarding the appointment of the special public prosecutor for the case.
