Pune: To ensure smooth traffic management during New Year’s Eve celebrations, Pune’s traffic police have announced road closures and diversions in major areas like Camp, Deccan, and Shivajinagar. Anticipating large crowds in these zones, traffic restrictions will be in place from 5 PM on December 31 until the crowds dissipate.
Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Police Amol Zende stated that specific routes have been identified for diversions to prevent congestion. Key changes include:
Traffic from Y Junction to Mahatma Gandhi Road will be diverted at 15 August Chowk via Qureshi Masjid and Sujata Mastani Chowk.
ISKCON Temple Chowk to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Statue (Aurora Towers) route will be closed.
Vehicles from Volga Chowk to Mohammad Rafi Chowk will be rerouted through East Street Road towards Indira Gandhi Chowk.
Movement from Indira Gandhi Chowk to Mahavir Chowk will be diverted via Lashkar Police Station Chowk.
Traffic from Sarbatwala Chowk to Mahavir Chowk will be redirected through Taboot Street.
Additionally, vehicles heading towards Fergusson College Road from Kothrud and Karve Road will face restrictions at Khandujibaba Chowk. These will be rerouted via Law College Road, Prabhat Road, and Alka Talkies Chowk.
Traffic accessing Fergusson College Road via JM Road will also be stopped at Rani Jhansi Chowk and redirected through alternative routes like Pune Municipal Corporation, Omkareshwar Temple, and Shivaji Road.
Drunk Driving Monitoring Intensified
Traffic police will conduct stringent checks against drunk driving starting December 31. Disposable "use-and-throw" breathalyzer pipes will be used for testing to maintain hygiene. Citizens are urged to avoid driving under the influence of alcohol.
Parking Prohibited on Key Roads
Parking restrictions will be enforced between 5 PM on December 31 and 5 AM on January 1 at the following locations:
From Goodluck Chowk to Fergusson College’s main gate.
From 15 August Chowk to Aurora Towers on Mahatma Gandhi Road.
