Pune police have recorded a total of 1,830 loudspeakers installed at various religious sites across the city. In compliance with the Supreme Court’s directives on noise pollution, the police will conduct a survey to identify unauthorized loudspeakers. The Police Commissioner has instructed all police stations to gather data regarding these installations.
State Government Orders Strict Compliance with Noise Regulations
The Supreme Court has mandated restrictions on noise levels at religious places to control sound pollution. Following this ruling, the state government has instructed strict implementation of these noise control measures.
According to the government’s regulations:
The maximum permissible noise level is 55 decibels during the day and 45 decibels in the evening.
Violators exceeding these limits will face legal action.
Police Commissioner’s Meeting and Action Plan
On Wednesday, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar convened a meeting with officials from all city police stations. During this meeting, he directed officers to compile detailed records of both authorized and unauthorized loudspeakers at religious sites within their jurisdictions.
As per police reports, Pune city currently has 1,830 loudspeakers installed at religious locations. The recorded distribution includes:
1,000 temples
130 churches
200 Buddhist viharas
300 mosques
150 dargahs
50 madrasas
Additionally, in line with noise control regulations, all loudspeakers must remain silent between 10 PM and 6 AM.
With this enforcement drive, Pune police aim to ensure compliance with noise pollution laws while maintaining religious harmony. Further surveys and legal actions will follow based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
