  1. Pune’s pollution levels rose sharply after the rain stopped.

  2. Diwali shopping traffic increased dust and emissions citywide.

  3. Temperature touched 33°C, worsening PM10 and PM2.5 levels.

Pune, 13 October 2025: Pune’s air quality has deteriorated significantly following the end of the recent rainfall. With Diwali shopping picking up pace, citizens have taken out vehicles in large numbers, leading to a spike in air pollution across several parts of the city.

On Sunday, residents in areas such as Shivajinagar, Lohegaon, Swargate, Bajirao Road, and Mandai reported breathing discomfort due to increased dust and smog. The combination of bright sunlight and suspended dust particles has pushed the city’s air into the ‘poor’ category.

As the skies cleared, Pune’s maximum temperature rose to around 32–33°C. Lohegaon recorded 33°C, while Shivajinagar stood at 32°C. The rise in temperature, coupled with dense traffic, has led to higher concentrations of PM10 and PM2.5 particles, fine and ultrafine dust pollutants known to affect respiratory health.

Environmental experts warn that if vehicular emissions continue at this rate during the festive season, Pune’s air quality may worsen further in the coming days.
