Pune: A drunk driver caused multiple accidents on Shivaji Road late Tuesday (December 24) night before being stopped by vigilant citizens at Deep Bungalow Chowk. The driver, identified as Dayanand Kedari, was handed over to Chatuhshrungi police, who later transferred him to Khadak police for further action.

According to Senior Police Inspector Vijayanand Patil of Chatuhshrungi Police Station, the incident began near Pyasa Hotel on Shivaji Road around 10 PM. Kedari, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, first hit a motorcyclist, causing the rider to fall. Instead of stopping, he fled the scene, hitting several other vehicles along the way.

The motorcyclist, undeterred by the fall, pursued the car. Kedari continued driving recklessly, causing more collisions, before finally being stopped by locals at Deep Bungalow Chowk. The public detained him and handed him over to Chatuhshrungi police.

Further investigations by Khadak police revealed that Kedari is a kitchen manager at a local hotel. Senior Police Inspector Shashikant Chavan of Khadak Police Station stated, "While Kedari's collisions caused only minor damages and no formal complaints were filed by other drivers, his reckless actions endangered public safety."

The Chatuhshrungi police conducted a medical test on Kedari to confirm his intoxication levels before transferring him to Khadak police for legal proceedings. The authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
