Pune: As New Year’s Eve draws near, seafood has emerged as a top choice for Pune residents, leading to increased demand at local markets. The Ganesh Peth fish market is currently experiencing a surge in fish supply, with significant quantities being delivered from India’s eastern and western coasts. Traders attribute the heightened demand to the festive season, particularly after the fasting rituals of the Margashirsha month concluded.

On Sunday, December 29, approximately 18 to 20 tons of deep-sea fish were brought to the market, along with 200 to 300 kilograms of creek fish and 700 to 800 kilograms of river fish.
