Pune: The much-anticipated underground road projects in Kasba Peth constituency are set to progress as the Public Works Department (PWD) has been directed to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR). These projects aim to improve traffic movement between Shaniwarwada-Swargate and Sarasbaug-Shaniwarwada, reducing congestion in some of the city's busiest areas.

The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Public Works Minister Shivendrasinhraje Bhosale at the Mantralaya on Thursday (March 20). MLA Hemant Rasne confirmed that the directive to prepare the DPR would accelerate the project’s implementation.

Kasba, a densely populated area with major marketplaces and heritage landmarks, faces severe traffic congestion daily. Given the narrow roads and high-density population, flyovers were deemed unfeasible. The underground road proposal was introduced as a viable alternative to ensure smoother traffic movement and fuel savings.

A detailed proposal highlighting the necessity of these underground corridors was earlier submitted to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. With the Public Works Minister now approving the DPR phase, the project is set to move forward.

The meeting was attended by key government officials, including: PWD Secretary Sanjay Dashpute, Sadashiv Salunkhe, Deputy Secretary Pragya Walke, B.S. Telang, Additional Secretary Prabhakar Lahane, Chief Engineer Atul Chavan, etc.
