Pune: A pet dog lost its life after being run over by a speeding car in the Swargate area. The Swargate police have filed a case against the car driver, identified as Sachin Katariya, a resident of Gultekdi.

The incident took place on Sunday (November 24), near Eva's Grace Hotel in the Purnima Tower area. Katariya, who operates an office in the vicinity, was driving out of the premises when his car ran over the dog, killing it instantly.

Complaint Filed Under Cruelty Prevention Laws

Following the incident, the dog’s owner approached the Mission Possible Trust, a Pune-based animal welfare organization.

Padmini Peter Stump, the organization’s founder, filed a formal complaint against Katariya. Based on the complaint, Swargate police registered a case under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

Police reviewed CCTV footage from the area and identified the car using its registration number. A case has now been filed, and further investigation is underway.

Pattern of Animal Cruelty

This is not the first such incident in Pune. Last month, in the Parvati Darshan area, an individual shot a dog for barking.

In another case in Mulshi, a farmer was accused of hanging a dog from a tree, claiming it was rabid. Both incidents led to criminal charges under applicable laws.
