CM Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated a new pedestrian bridge in Pune linking Chhatrapati Sambhaji Garden Metro Station to Shaniwar Peth.
The cable-stayed bridge, designed like a tanpura, combines modern engineering with Pune’s cultural heritage.
It will ease metro access for residents of Shaniwar Peth, Narayan Peth, and nearby areas, improving daily commutes.
Pune, 2nd September 2025: Pune’s skyline saw a striking new addition on Monday, 2nd September 2025, as Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated a landmark pedestrian bridge connecting the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Garden Metro Station with Shaniwar Peth.
The cable-stayed bridge, described as a marvel of engineering and design, is expected to transform metro accessibility for the densely populated Peth areas. The 179.7-metre-long and 8-metre-wide structure rests on just two pillars in the Mutha River, ensuring smooth water flow, while its 70-degree inclined pylon is supported by 20 high-tension cables.
What makes the bridge unique is its cultural symbolism. Inspired by Pune’s rich musical legacy and the nearby Balgandharva Rangmandir, the structure has been designed to resemble a tanpura, merging artistic aesthetics with engineering precision.
Part of Phase 1 of the Pune Metro project, the bridge provides a direct link between Deccan Gymkhana, Sambhaji Garden, and the historic Peth localities. It is expected to benefit thousands of residents in Shaniwar Peth, Narayan Peth, and surrounding areas by offering a safer, faster, and more convenient passage across the river.
The inauguration event was attended by Union Minister of State for Cooperation Murlidhar Mohol, Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Chairperson Dr. Neelam Gorhe, Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal, MLAs Hemant Rasane, Sunil Kamble, Siddharth Shirole, and Maha Metro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar.
