Pune: The Pune Traffic Police, in collaboration with Pune Platform for Collaborative Response (PPCR), Top Management Consortium Foundation (TMCF), and Jehangir Hospital, has launched a special initiative called "Pune Traffic Mitigation Internship Program." The program aims to educate college students on traffic management, enforcement, and technological advancements in urban traffic regulation.
Program Highlights
Understanding Traffic Operations
Students were introduced to various aspects of the Pune Traffic Police Department, including planning, administration, CCTV monitoring, multimedia operations, computerized systems, and enforcement procedures.
Visit to ATMS Center on Sinhagad Road
Students visited the Adaptive Traffic Management System (ATMS) center to understand real-time traffic monitoring and accident prevention through intelligent traffic systems.
The session focused on improving travel reliability and reducing traffic congestion.
On-Site Traffic Law Enforcement
Students were taken to high-traffic intersections in Pune to witness real-world traffic regulation challenges.
They observed traffic rule violations such as fancy number plates, overspeeding, triple-seat riding, and driving against traffic flow.
Students learned about enforcement technologies, including CCTV-based e-challan system, towing machines, and speed guns.
Understanding Road Safety Consequences
Traffic officers explained the serious consequences of traffic violations and how negligence leads to accidents.
First Aid Training for Emergencies
Dr. Sham Gaikwad, a medical expert from Jehangir Hospital, provided first-aid training to students and traffic police officers.
The session focused on emergency response during accidents, CPR techniques, and handling sudden cardiac arrests.
Future Expansion of the Program
Over 70 students from Symbiosis School of Economics, Cybage, and Indira School of Business Studies will actively participate in this program.
The initiative is being led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Shri Amol Zhende, along with Police Inspectors Mrunal Mulla, Sunil Gawli, and Assistant Commissioner Raghutawan.
