According to police, the woman had lodged a complaint on July 2 after Butiya uploaded her photos and videos online following a personal dispute between them. Disturbed by the repeated circulation of the content, the woman went into severe stress and was counselled by the Bharosa Cell to prevent her from taking any extreme step.

After the incident, the accused fled Pune in July and kept changing his whereabouts. Police teams tracked him across Karnataka and Goa. Acting on a tip-off that he was moving towards Goa’s Mapusa, the team followed his trail. Eventually, he was found in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra and taken into custody from a hotel in Banda taluka.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of senior inspector Vitthal Pawar and crime inspector Surekha Chavan. A team of officers including API Sagar Patil, ASI Bapu Khutwad, Dashrath Mohite, constables Amol Pawar, Kiran Kamble, Nikhil Rajivde, Sagar Sutkar, Mahadev Nale, Ravindra Kadam, and women constables Jayashree Shelke and Pragya Navadkar executed the arrest.
