Purushottam Karandak 2024: Kolhapur’s 'Yatra' and 'Kalam 375' Steal the Spotlight

Shahaji Law College, Kolhapur, was awarded the Kumar Joshi Trophy for the best experimental play with their presentation of 'Kalam 375.'

Pune: In an impressive performance at the grand finale of the prestigious Purushottam Karandak competition, Kolhapur's Deshbhakt Ratnappa Kumbhar College of Commerce emerged victorious with their play 'Yatra,' claiming the coveted trophy.

Meanwhile, Shahaji Law College, Kolhapur, was awarded the Kumar Joshi Trophy for the best experimental play with their presentation of 'Kalam 375.'

The announcement of winners during the prize distribution ceremony on December 29 brought enthusiastic celebrations, with slogans like "Ganpati Bappa Morya" and "Jotibacha Navane Changbhala" echoing in the venue.

Other Winners:

  • Second Place: 'Paati,' Vidya Pratishthan's Arts, Commerce, and Science College, Baramati

  • Third Place: 'Dekhava,' New Arts, Commerce, and Science College, Ahmednagar

  • Best Actor: Shraddha Rangari, 'Suvarna,' Paati, Vidya Pratishthan’s Arts, Commerce, and Science College

  • Best Direction: Abhishek Hiremath Swami, 'Yatra,' Deshbhakt Ratnappa Kumbhar College of Commerce

The prize distribution ceremony featured actor Manoj Joshi as the chief guest. Addressing the participants, Joshi emphasized the importance of mastering language and continuous learning in the performing arts. He highlighted the Purushottam Karandak as a significant platform for nurturing theater talent in India.

Joshi remarked, "Theater is a blend of all art forms. To create impactful performances, actors must read extensively and rehearse diligently. Mastery over language is essential for entering the essence of a character and achieving excellence in dramatic arts."
