Pune: The families of two young victims in the Rajgurunagar assault and murder case will each receive ₹10 lakh in compensation under the Maharashtra government’s Manodhairya Scheme.
This decision was facilitated by the Pune District Legal Services Authority (PDLSA) and follows a revised government order increasing the financial aid cap for victims of sexual violence, rape, and acid attacks.
The tragic incident involved the accused luring two minor girls with treats, subjecting them to sexual assault, and subsequently drowning them in a water-filled drum. The crime triggered widespread outrage, prompting swift action by authorities.
On Thursday, the Department of Women and Child Development announced an increase in financial aid under the Manodhairya Scheme, raising the limit to ₹10 lakh. The following day, the PDLSA ensured this assistance was extended to the victims’ families.
Under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, the Manodhairya Scheme offers rehabilitation for child victims and financial support to families in cases involving fatalities. A committee led by Principal District Judge Mahendra Mahajan approved the compensation for the victims’ families.
"The Manodhairya Scheme plays a crucial role in providing financial stability and rehabilitation support to families affected by such incidents. This case highlights our commitment to ensuring timely assistance," stated Judge Sonal Patil, Secretary of the PDLSA.
To expedite the process, the PDLSA actively pursued the matter, ensuring immediate disbursement of the enhanced compensation.
