Pune: In a shocking incident in Wagholi area, gold jewelry weighing 58 tolas and valued at ₹23 lakh was stolen from the residence of a man who had gone to his hometown to celebrate Diwali. The incident took place at the Rohan Abhilasha Society between October 28 and November 19, 2024.

The victim, Gaurav Adarsh Gera, a 37-year-old resident of the society, entrusted his house keys to his neighbors, Nikhil Gupta (35) and Tanvi Gupta (32), before leaving for his hometown in Uttar Pradesh.

He requested them to water the plants in the pots inside his house, and the neighbors agreed to help. However, upon returning from his trip, Gaurav discovered that his gold jewelry, valued at ₹23 lakh, was missing from the cupboard. Suspicious of his neighbors, he lodged a formal complaint at the Wagholi Police Station.

Acting on the complaint, the police registered a case against the accused neighbors. Preliminary investigations suggest that the keys handed over to the neighbors may have been misused.

Assistant Police Inspector Ahire, who is leading the investigation, stated that the case is being thoroughly examined, and further action will be taken based on evidence. The police have urged citizens to exercise caution while handing over house keys or entrusting responsibilities to others during extended periods of absence.
