Pune: The School Education Department has announced an extension of the RTE admission deadline until April 1, giving students on the waiting list another opportunity for free and compulsory education under the Right to Education (RTE) Act. The initial deadline of March 10 has now been extended to ensure more students secure admission.
Large Number of Applications, But Fewer Confirmed Admissions
Under the 25% RTE quota, admissions were being processed in 8,863 schools across Maharashtra for the academic year 2024-25. A total of 3,05,151 applications were submitted for 1,09,087 available seats.
However, officials observed that many parents declined admissions due to their children not being allotted nearby schools. As a result, the actual number of confirmed admissions was lower than expected. To resolve this, the government has granted a deadline extension for the first round of students on the waiting list.
Key Instructions for Parents
Parents of students on the waiting list should follow these steps to ensure their child’s admission:
Submit all required documents at the allotted school before April 1 to confirm admission.
If the allotted school is not suitable, be prepared for the second round of seat allocation.
Contact the District Education Office for additional information regarding the admission process.
Lack of Nearby School Allotments
Many parents, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas, rejected their allotted schools due to distance and inconvenience. They have demanded that the school selection process should prioritize proximity and that the computerized allocation system should be improved to consider this factor more effectively.
Education Department’s Final Notice
The Education Department has clearly stated that April 1 is the final deadline, and no further extensions will be granted. After this date, the waiting list admissions will be closed. Parents are urged to confirm their admissions before the deadline to secure their child’s seat under the RTE scheme.
