Pune: In two separate incidents of daytime burglaries, thieves targeted apartments in Sadashiv Peth and Mukundnagar, stealing cash, gold, and foreign currency valued at over ₹4 lakh.

The thefts have raised concerns among residents about rising break-ins across the city, especially in locked apartments during daylight hours.

In the first incident, a senior woman residing in Siddhi Housing Society in Sadashiv Peth reported a theft involving foreign currency.

According to the complaint filed at the Vishrambaug police station, the woman and her husband left their apartment around noon on November 18 to pick up their granddaughter from school, leaving the apartment locked.

Upon returning at around 1 pm, they discovered the lock on their door broken. The thieves had entered the bedroom and stolen $1,800 in cash, valued at ₹1,51,985.

Senior Police Inspector Vijaymala Pawar visited the scene to assess the situation, while Police Sub-Inspector Ganesh Fartade is leading the investigation.

In a separate but similar incident, burglars broke into a residence in Mukundnagar, Swargate, stealing cash and gold jewelry valued at ₹2.5 lakh.

The complainant, Jinesh Mohanlal Oswal (28), residing at Kedar Residency, stated that the family had left the apartment locked. Upon their return, they found the lock broken and the valuables missing. Police Sub-Inspector Poonam Patil is investigating this incident.

Both incidents highlight a disturbing trend of increased burglaries targeting locked apartments during the day, as thieves exploit absences in residential societies. Police investigations are ongoing, with the authorities urging citizens to take extra precautions.
