Pune: The Pune police have arrested two suspects, Navnath Gursal and Pavan Sharma, in connection with the abduction and murder of BJP leader Yogesh Tilekar’s maternal uncle, Satish Wagh.
Investigations continue to locate other culprits involved in the heinous crime that has sent shockwaves through the city.
The incident unfolded early yesterday when Wagh, 60, was reportedly out for a morning walk near Phursungi Phata. A group of five individuals arrived in a car and forcefully abducted him. An eyewitness immediately informed the family, who reported the matter to the Hadapsar Police.
Despite deploying teams across multiple locations, police later discovered Wagh’s body in the Yavat Police Station area. Preliminary examinations indicated that he was strangled to death shortly after his abduction.
Massive Investigation Underway
The Pune police have intensified their investigation, forming 20 teams that are working round the clock. Over 400 CCTV cameras in the Hadapsar, Phursungi, and Solapur Road areas have been reviewed to trace the suspects.
Speaking to mediapersons, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar revealed that technical analysis and ground-level inquiries led to the apprehension of two suspects, while others remain absconding. One of the fugitives is a known repeat offender.
Commissioner Kumar reassured citizens, stating, “Pune’s security is of utmost priority. Police are taking swift and decisive action in this case.”
He further added, “The kidnappers made no ransom demands, and the vehicle used in the crime did not carry a registration plate, complicating the investigation. However, we are making significant progress.”
The arrested individuals are currently being interrogated, and further developments are expected soon. The motive behind the murder remains unclear, but police suspect it will be uncovered as the investigation unfolds.
