Pune: While many former corporators struggle to secure funds for essential development works in their wards, a nominated member has successfully obtained PMC approval for five projects worth ₹2.44 crore in Ward No. 16. This has raised concerns over selective fund allocation, as other areas remain deprived of much-needed infrastructure improvements.
Over the past few months, former corporators have been lobbying for funds for urgent civic issues such as sewage pipelines, water supply, pothole repairs, and public health services. However, PMC officials have repeatedly stated that there is no budget available. Many corporators have been asked to get funds sanctioned before work can proceed.
Despite this, the Standing Committee recently approved tenders for five projects in Ward No. 16, requested by a nominated member. These projects, mainly related to sewage pipeline works in Rasta Peth, Somwar Peth, Mangalwar Peth, and surrounding areas, received immediate approval.
Details of Approved Projects
Rasta Peth: Laying of a sewage pipeline at multiple locations – ₹48.89 lakh
Riyaz Heights to Ambedkar Bhavan: Installation of a 600 mm diameter sewage pipeline – ₹48.89 lakh
Kala Wada Khadda Garage: Installation of a 600 mm diameter sewage pipeline – ₹48.88 lakh
Somwar Peth: Replacement and repair of the main sewage pipeline – ₹48.89 lakh
Mangalwar Peth: Replacement of the main sewage pipeline – ₹48.85 lakh
These tenders were approved by PMC Administrator and Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale.
The tendering process for these projects saw only two contractors qualifying. Among them, M/s Khwaja Gareeb Nawaz Enterprises won all five tenders by bidding 2.25% lower than the estimated budget.
The second bidder, Shri Bhavani Construction, submitted near-identical bids, quoting 0.00% lower for three tenders and 1% lower for two tenders. As a result, Khwaja Gareeb Nawaz Enterprises secured the contracts, totaling ₹2.44 crore.
