Pune: A man attempted self-immolation outside the Uruli Kanchan police station after authorities failed to take action on his assault complaint. The dramatic incident unfolded as he poured petrol on himself in protest. Fortunately, police officers acted swiftly, preventing a major tragedy. Following the incident, the police registered an FIR against six individuals accused of the assault.
What Led to the Incident?
The victim had filmed an illegal matka gambling operation on his mobile phone. Allegedly, the individuals running the operation attacked him for recording their activities. The assault took place on Saturday night (March 1) behind a tin shed near Galaxy Lodge in Soratapwadi.
When the victim reported the attack to the Uruli Kanchan police, he was met with inaction for over 24 hours. In frustration, he took extreme measures, attempting to set himself on fire outside the police station. Timely intervention by police officers prevented the worst.
FIR Registered Against Six Accused
After the self-immolation attempt, the police registered a case against the accused, identified as:

Sharad Karde (32)
The police also seized gambling materials and ₹3,700 in cash from the accused. A case has been registered under Section 12(A) of the Maharashtra Gambling Prevention Act, and further investigation is underway.
