Pune, 14 August 2025: A newly installed ‘Shaurya Sculpture’ at the junction on the DP Road from Mayur Colony towards Gandhi Bhavan in Kothrud has become a centre of attraction for locals and passers-by. Erected by the Pune Municipal Corporation, the installation honours the bravery, sacrifice, and dedication of Indian soldiers.
The sculpture features life-like depictions of soldiers, some standing armed on the frontlines, others unfurling the national flag. Every detail, from their uniforms and weapons to the determined expressions on their faces, has been crafted to bring realism and evoke respect. Local residents have adorned the statues with garlands as a mark of tribute.
In celebration of Independence Day, the Pune Municipal Corporation has decorated the sculpture with colourful lights, making it a striking sight after sunset. The illuminated display is attracting visitors, with many stopping to take photographs. Beyond the Independence Day celebrations, the installation serves as a year-round reminder of the valour of Indian soldiers.
Initiated under the guidance of former corporator Prithviraj Sutar, the Shaurya Sculpture has given the area both historical and cultural significance. Locals say it has become a point of pride for Kothrud and a source of inspiration for future generations.
