Pune: The Maharashtra government has directed the submission of a proposal for the development of a multi-modal hub at Swargate within the next eight days. The project, which spans approximately 13 acres, aims to construct a modern transport facility, complete with a state-of-the-art bus terminal, commercial offices, a mall, and parking facilities to enhance passenger convenience.

The plan follows the Shivajinagar bus station redevelopment model, which has been identified as a crucial project for Pune’s traffic management. To ensure the efficient and timely execution of this Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiative, the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro) and the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) have been instructed to collaborate effectively.

A high-level meeting was convened in Mumbai, chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, to discuss the Shivajinagar and Swargate multi-modal hubs. The meeting was attended by key government officials, including Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, Minister of State for Transport Madhuri Misal, MLA Siddharth Shirole, and senior officials from the Planning, Finance, and Urban Development departments.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that the multi-modal hub at Swargate would follow the Shivajinagar model, with provisions for modern infrastructure, commercial facilities, and passenger-centric amenities. The proposal for this development has been mandated for submission within the next eight days.

To ensure the timely execution of the Shivajinagar project, the foundation stone is expected to be laid on Maharashtra Day. The project will be executed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with MahaMetro serving as the project implementation agency. In this regard, a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MahaMetro and MSRTC will be finalized soon, confirmed Deputy CM Ajit Pawar.

Key Features of the Project

  • A modern bus terminal integrated with a commercial complex

  • Two basement levels dedicated to parking

  • Ground Floor: Bus Terminal, First Floor: Bus Depot, Second Floor: Bus Parking Area
