Pune: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken cognizance of the Shubhada Kodare murder case and constituted a fact-finding committee to investigate the safety measures implemented for women employees in private companies, particularly in IT and BPO sectors.
Shubhada Kodare, a young woman working in a multinational BPO in Yerawada, Pune, was fatally attacked by a male colleague with a sharp weapon. The incident occurred recently in the company’s parking lot, raising serious concerns about workplace safety.
The accused, identified as Krishna Satyanarayan Kanoja (28), a resident of Ganeshkhind Road, was arrested shortly after the incident. Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that the murder stemmed from financial disputes between the accused and the victim. Kanoja has been remanded to police custody until January 13.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken cognizance of the incident and constituted a fact-finding committee to investigate the matter thoroughly. According to a press release by NCW Media Advisor Shivam Garg, the committee will submit its report within 10 days.
The committee comprises NCW Secretary Meenakshi Negi, retired Haryana DGP B.K. Sinha, retired Kerala DGP R. Sreelekha, and legal advisor Manmohan Verma. Its mandate includes examining the safety measures implemented for women employees in private companies, particularly in IT and BPO sectors.
The NCW aims to understand why employees present during the attack did not intervene and whether the company had adequate safety protocols to prevent such incidents. Additionally, the investigation will focus on the company’s coordination with local police and measures undertaken to ensure the safety of women employees.
The NCW has emphasized the need for robust safety protocols at workplaces and assured that necessary recommendations will be made based on the findings of the report.
