Pune: Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has presented its annual budget for the financial year 2025-26, with projected revenue of ₹566 crore and an estimated expenditure of ₹648 crore. The budget, which reflects a deficit of ₹82 crore, was presented during the university’s budgetary senate meeting held on Saturday (March 22).
The meeting was chaired by Vice-Chancellor Dr. Suresh Gosavi, with Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr. Parag Kalkar and Acting Registrar Dr. Jyoti Bhakare in attendance. Management Council member Ravindra Shinganapurkar presented the budget around 7:30 PM.
Compared to the previous year, the budget deficit has been reduced by ₹17 crore. Notably, significant provisions have been made for student scholarships, research enhancement, academic quality improvement, and hostel development.
Major Focus on Research and Student Hostels
SPPU has allocated funds to support research scholars by constructing two 14-story hostel buildings, A-Wing and B-Wing, each designed to accommodate 513 students. In addition, a total of ₹29.56 crore has been earmarked for new hostel construction, capacity expansion, and maintenance.
Increase in Scholarship Funding
The university has also increased funding for four key financial assistance schemes, with a total rise of ₹1.85 crore. The Swami Vivekananda Financial Assistance Scheme has seen the highest increase, doubling from ₹1.25 crore to ₹2.25 crore.
Additional Key Budget Allocations:
₹5 lakh for the establishment of the Krantiveer Birsa Munda Tribal Studies Center.
₹5 crore each for the construction of Nashik and Ahilyanagar sub-center buildings.
₹3 crore allocated for the construction of an animal house.
₹12.96 crore for the maintenance and development of the Student Development Board.
₹7.5 crore for the Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil "Earn and Learn" scheme, aimed at supporting students financially while they pursue their education.
