Pune: In a heated session of the Senate at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), members raised concerns over significant delays in issuing certificates to students.
The discussion, which took place on Saturday (November 30), brought to light an alarming example: a student who had applied for a duplicate marksheet five years ago is still waiting for the document.
Senate member Ganpat Nangre initiated the discussion during the question-and-answer session, asking about the timeline for providing duplicate marksheets to students.
Administrative member Sagar Vaidya responded, stating that marksheets are typically issued within 15 days. However, Nangre countered by citing the case of a student who had been waiting for over five years, which drew attention from other members.
Several members criticized the university’s inability to provide certificates on time, with some calling for immediate action against the officials responsible.
Sachin Gorde-Patil demanded that the pending duplicate marksheet be issued before the Senate session concluded. He further questioned why such delays occur despite the Vice-Chancellor having all necessary authority to resolve the matter.
Faced with the members' aggressive stance, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Suresh Gosavi expressed regret over the situation and assured the Senate that all pending marksheets would be issued within 15 days.
Separately, Dr. Sunil Lokhande raised concerns about the tenure of acting officials at the university. He asked how many officials were serving in temporary positions and for how long.
Principal Devidas Vaidande revealed that 11 positions at the university are currently held by acting officials. However, questions regarding the permissible duration for such appointments remained unanswered by the administration.
The university assured members that the issue of acting officials would be resolved once permanent faculty recruitment is completed.
