Jamnagar: Three middle-aged elephants from Tunisia (Africa) will get a new house in Jamnagar. Two elephants and an elephant, who have been living in a zoo in Tunisia for the last 23 years, will now come to live at the Vantara Wildlife Rescue Centre in Gujarat.

The centre, founded by Anant Ambani, was approached by Prigia, a private zoo in Tunisia. The three elephants had been living in the zoo since the age of four. He is now about 29 years old and the zoo found it difficult to meet his living and food and medical care expenses.

Since these elephants are more dependent on humans, it is not possible to release them back into the forest. He has skin and dental ailments and needs to be treated for them.

It is also important for them to play intellectually stimulating sports, including physical exercise. Vantara has agreed to meet this entire need of elephants.

The national and international laws, as well as the rules on international trade of wild animals at risk of extinction, have been complied with and the elephants will arrive in India by chartered cargo flight.
