Pune: A 44-year-old trekker tragically lost his life after suffering a heart attack while trekking at Torna Fort on Saturday night (February 7). Despite immediate rescue efforts by the police and disaster management team, he was declared dead upon reaching medical assistance.
The deceased, identified as Ranjit Mohandas Shinde, was a resident of Warje, Pune, originally from Songaon, Satara. The incident was reported by his companion Fazilat Khan at Velhe Police Station on Sunday morning (8th). Inspector Dnyaneshwar Dhivar is currently investigating the matter.
Shinde, a well-known dairy business owner in Warje, Pune, was known for his active lifestyle. According to police sources, Shinde and Khan had gone trekking at Torna Fort on Saturday when he suddenly complained of severe chest pain and collapsed around 10:30 PM. Khan immediately dialed emergency helpline 112 and sought assistance.
Upon receiving the distress call, Velhe police contacted the disaster management team for a rescue operation. Within a short time, a team comprising Constables Rohit Marbhal and Yuvraj Somvanshi, along with rescue personnel Tanaji Bhosale, Ganesh Sapkal, Sanjay Chorge, Sandeep Solaskar, Dilip Talekar, Anil Renuse, and S.L. Adventure members, reached the location to assist.
The team carefully transported the unconscious Shinde down from the fort with the help of volunteers Lahu Ughade, Tushar Dighe, Kaustubh Dighe, Prashant Ingulkar, Rishikesh Ingulkar, and Sachin Shelar. The group reached the parking area at the base of the fort at around 5 AM, where a 108 emergency ambulance was already waiting.
Despite their swift response, doctors Rahul Borse (ambulance service), Chandrakant Bhoite, and Dnyaneshwar Hiras (rural hospital) examined Shinde and declared him dead.
