Pune: A grand celebration of Venky’s director Balaji Rao’s birthday turned controversial after loudspeakers and laser shows disrupted the peace in Kokate Wasti, Bavdhan, until 2:30 AM.
Following complaints from local residents, the Hinjewadi Police have registered a case against the event’s organizer, Adinath Sambhaji Mate, the general manager of Venky’s.
According to the police, the birthday event was organized on Sunday, December 10, to celebrate Balaji Rao’s birthday, which falls on December 8.
The party included sound walls, a laser light show, and live performances by popular singers. The sound levels caused significant noise pollution, disturbing residents of the Kokate Wasti area.
Local residents reported the disturbance, but police intervention was delayed.
Two days after the event, a case was registered under Section 15 of the Environmental Protection Act, 1986, and Section 33 of the Maharashtra Police Act. Assistant Police Inspector Mahale is leading the investigation.
Resident Complaints and Noise Pollution Concerns
The excessive noise from the event created inconvenience for many residents, forcing them to endure disturbances late into the night.
Despite the loud noise continuing until 2:30 AM, the police did not take immediate action during the event. The delayed response has also raised questions about enforcement of noise pollution norms.
Legal Action
The police have invoked strict legal provisions to address the violation:
Environmental Protection Act, 1986 (Section 15): Addresses breaches of noise pollution norms.
Maharashtra Police Act (Section 33, Rule 131): Prohibits acts disturbing public peace and order.
Authorities have assured that the incident will be thoroughly investigated and appropriate measures will be taken against those responsible.
