Pune: Vishrantwadi Police arrested two individuals accused of assaulting former corporator Chandrakant Tingre.

The attack, which involved stone pelting and physical assault, occurred during the Maharashtra Assembly Election campaign after Tingre shifted allegiance from the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party to the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) faction.

Rekha Tingre, a former corporator from Dhanori, and her husband Chandrakant Tingre initially supported Mahayuti candidate Sunil Tingre during the campaign.

However, they later switched their support to the NCP (SP) faction, endorsing Bapu Pathare. This political move reportedly provoked resentment among rival supporters.

On November 19, while Chandrakant Tingre and his driver were waiting in their car near the Dhanori MSEDCL office, the accused blocked their vehicle, pelted stones, and assaulted them.

Rekha Tingre filed a complaint alleging that the attack was orchestrated by supporters of Sunil Tingre at his behest. Vishrantwadi Police acted swiftly, arresting Revant Tanaji Lagas and Pranjit Achyut Shinde.

During questioning, the accused admitted that the attack was motivated by anger over Tingre’s defection to a rival political faction during the campaign. Senior Police Inspector Kanchan Jadhav confirmed these findings.

Rekha Tingre spoke to the media, alleging that the assault was a life-threatening attack planned by rivals. The police are investigating the involvement of others in the incident.
