Pune: A violent gang attack in Wadgaon Sheri on Saturday (February 22) midnight has sparked fear among residents, following the vandalization of multiple vehicles. The Chandan Nagar Police have registered a case against 13 individuals, with investigations currently underway.
According to reports, the incident took place around 1 AM near Kurkute Hospital during the annual village deity fair, which had drawn a large crowd. A group of young men were shouting loudly while moving through the area when local resident Rishikesh Pawale confronted them. Enraged, the gang retaliated by storming into the streets, armed with wooden sticks, and began damaging parked vehicles.
The gang smashed the windows of multiple vehicles, including two auto-rickshaws and 10-12 two-wheelers, causing significant damage. Witnesses reported that the attackers even attempted to set some vehicles on fire using petrol and verbally abused the locals, further escalating the situation. The sudden outbreak of violence created panic, with residents too afraid to step out of their homes.
Following the incident, several residents lodged complaints, demanding strict action against those involved. Locals have voiced concerns over the rise in criminal activities and emphasized the need for enhanced security in the area, particularly at night.
Upon receiving reports, the Chandan Nagar Police immediately reached the scene and initiated an investigation. Some suspects managed to flee, but police teams conducted searches and detained several individuals. Senior Police Inspector Seema Dhakne confirmed, "A case has been registered against 13 people. Identification and arrests of the suspects are in progress."
This incident follows a series of similar vandalism cases reported in Pune recently, raising concerns among residents. Citizens fear that unless swift and strict action is taken against such criminal elements, the situation may deteriorate further.
