Pune: A high-stakes police operation in the Chinchoshi-Kendur Ghat area of Khed Taluka took a violent turn when a wanted criminal attacked law enforcement officers with a machete.
The suspect, identified as Sachin Chandar Bhosale, attempted to evade arrest by assaulting Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dr. Shivaji Pawar and Assistant Police Inspector (API) Prasanna Jarhad from the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate.
The Pimpri-Chinchwad police team had laid an ambush around 12:15 AM to apprehend Sachin Bhosale and Mithun Bhosale, both residents of Kharatwadi, Shrigonda, Ahmednagar district. As the officers moved in, Sachin Bhosale brandished a machete and attempted to fatally attack DCP Pawar and API Jarhad.
Police Fire in Self-Defense, Suspect Shot in the Leg
Faced with imminent danger, DCP Pawar fired two rounds from his service pistol, one of which hit Bhosale’s right leg, incapacitating him. Despite being injured, the suspect continued to resist arrest but was eventually subdued.
Both DCP Pawar and API Jarhad sustained injuries in the attack. Following the incident, API Prasanna Jarhad filed a complaint, and a case has been registered against Sachin Bhosale for attempted murder, obstructing a public servant from performing duty, and other charges.
According to Senior Police Inspector Pramod Wagh from Chakan Police Station, Sachin Bhosale had nine prior criminal cases registered across multiple police stations. His latest attack has led to fresh charges being filed under various sections of the law.
