Pune: In a horrifying case of domestic violence, a man brutally murdered his wife with sewing machine scissors in the Kharadi area of Pune early Wednesday (January 22) morning. The accused, Shivdas Tukaram Gite (37), stabbed his wife, Jyoti Shivdas Gite (28), in the neck following a family dispute. The incident occurred in their home in Tuljabhavani Nagar, Lane No. 5.
After committing the murder, Shivdas recorded a three-and-a-half-minute video in which he accused his wife of betrayal. In the video, he referred to her as the "goddess of the house" and claimed that she had deceived him. The video was later shared in a WhatsApp group of his office colleagues before he surrendered at the Chandannagar police station.
According to police investigations, the accused had long-standing suspicions about his wife’s character and believed that she intended to take over his property. These suspicions had caused repeated arguments between the couple. On Wednesday, the argument escalated, leading Shivdas to stab Jyoti in the neck with sewing machine scissors. The murder was committed in the presence of their child.
A case has been registered at the Chandannagar police station, and Shivdas was immediately taken into custody. Assistant Police Inspector Rahul Kolpe is heading the investigation.
Video Confession and Public Outcry
Following the murder, Shivdas recorded a video in which he confessed to the crime and explained his reasons. The video has since gone viral, sparking outrage among the public. In the recording, Shivdas claimed that his wife had betrayed him, which led to the fatal confrontation.
The incident has drawn severe criticism from political leaders and citizens alike. Shiv Sena (Thackeray faction) Deputy Leader Sushma Andhare condemned the incident, stating, "This is a shocking and brutal crime that puts humanity to shame. It reflects a complete lack of fear of the police." Congress leader Ravindra Dhangekar also expressed concern, demanding swift action from the Home Department to ensure justice is served.
